Product Description
Zymox Otic is an enzymatic ear solution for dogs and cats, built around the LP3 enzyme system of lysozyme, lactoferrin, and lactoperoxidase. These are naturally occurring enzymes found in tears, saliva, and milk, and the formula uses them to address the bacteria, yeast, and fungal organisms that cause ear problems, including Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Proteus, and Malassezia.
This is the version without hydrocortisone, which matters for a specific set of pets: those who can't have a steroid, those on steroids elsewhere, diabetics, and animals where a veterinarian wants to avoid adding one. It's also the appropriate choice when inflammation isn't the main problem.
The thing that sets Zymox apart from every other ear product is how it's used. Do not clean the ear before or during treatment, and do not use any other ear preparation alongside it. Cleaners and other products disrupt the enzyme activity, and the debris in the canal is part of what the enzymes work on. That runs completely counter to how owners are used to treating ears, which is why it's worth saying plainly.
Ingredients
Glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, lactoferrin, potassium iodide, dextrose, glycerin, hydroxypropyl cellulose, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol.
How to Use
Do not clean the ear before or during treatment. Do not use other ear cleaners, flushes, or medications at the same time.
Fill the ear canal with the solution and gently massage the base of the ear. Let your pet shake the head, and wipe only the outer ear if needed.
Use once daily, or as directed by your veterinarian, and continue for the full recommended course.
