Ultra EFA Liquid for Dogs and Cats
For dogs and cats.
Product Description
Ultra EFA is a concentrated marine omega 3 liquid delivering 540 mg EPA and 360 mg DHA per teaspoon, with supporting nutrients built in.
The concentration is the point. Most of the benefit attributed to fish oil comes from EPA and DHA specifically, and a great many products are sold on total fish oil content while delivering comparatively little of either. At 3,000 mg of marine lipid concentrate per teaspoon supplying 900 mg of combined EPA and DHA, this is a potent formula, which also means a smaller volume for the same effect.
Three additions make it more than plain oil. Vitamin E at 45 IU per teaspoon protects the fatty acids from oxidation, which matters because rancid fish oil is both unpalatable and counterproductive. Rosemary extract serves as a second natural antioxidant. Lecithin from sunflower supplies phosphatidylcholine, which aids emulsification, and zinc and biotin are both directly involved in skin and coat health.
Fatty acids are used most often for skin and coat, and are also commonly given for joint comfort in older animals.

How to Use
Shake well before each use. The label directs 1/4 teaspoon per 15 lbs of body weight, twice daily. As the label's own example puts it, a 30 lb animal gets 1/2 teaspoon twice daily.
Pour it over food. Most dogs and cats take it readily.
Give it time. Skin and coat changes follow the growth of new hair, so judge the result after six to eight weeks of daily use rather than after a week.
Store it in a cool dark place. Fish oils oxidize with heat and light, and a bottle that smells off should be replaced.
Additional Information
For dogs and cats. Contains fish. Available in 8 fl oz (236 mL) and 16 fl oz (472 mL). This is a nutritional supplement, not an FDA-approved drug.
Mention it before surgery, since omega 3s at higher doses are commonly noted for an effect on clotting. Fatty acids are also calorie dense, which is worth accounting for in a pet being kept to a weight.
Safety in pregnant or breeding animals has not been proven. Keep out of reach of children.

Itching that is intense, seasonal, or comes with hair loss, scabs or ear trouble is usually driven by something specific like allergies or parasites, and fatty acids work better supporting that treatment than replacing it.
