ThunderShirt is a drug-free calming wrap that applies gentle, constant pressure around a dog's torso, working on the same principle as swaddling an infant or the pressure vests used with anxious people. For a lot of dogs it takes the edge off without anything going into their system.

It's most often used for thunderstorms and fireworks, and it also gets used for travel, vet and grooming visits, separation anxiety, and general restlessness. The practical appeal is that there's nothing to time, nothing to dose, and no interaction with medication, so it works on its own or alongside whatever else your veterinarian has recommended.

How to Use

Fit it snugly but not tightly. You should be able to slide a couple of fingers under the fabric. A wrap that's too loose won't apply useful pressure, and one that's too tight isn't safe.

Introduce it before you need it. Put it on during calm moments with treats for a few short sessions so your dog associates it with something ordinary rather than with the storm that follows. A wrap first worn ten minutes before fireworks start is far less likely to help.

Put it on ahead of a predictable event rather than once your dog is already panicking. For storms, that means when the forecast turns, not when the thunder does.

Take it off between uses. It isn't meant to be worn continuously, and skin needs air. Supervise your dog while wearing it, and remove it if the fit slips or your dog seems bothered by it.
