Rx D3 Liquid for Dogs and Cats
For dogs and cats.
Product Description
Rx D3 is a concentrated liquid vitamin D3 in an MCT oil base, for pets whose testing has shown vitamin D insufficiency.
Dogs and cats do not make meaningful vitamin D in their skin the way people do, so their entire supply comes from the diet. That makes insufficiency a real possibility in animals with malabsorption, chronic intestinal disease, or restricted diets, and it is measurable with a blood test.
The important thing to understand about this product is that it is dosed by test result, not by body weight. The label deliberately gives no weight chart. Vitamin D is fat soluble and accumulates, which means too much is genuinely harmful rather than simply wasted, and the manufacturer's instruction is to establish the dose from a vitamin D test and recheck in 8 to 10 weeks to confirm you have landed in the right range.
At 100 IU per drop, the format allows the fine adjustment that kind of titration needs.
Active Ingredients
- Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), 3,000 IU per 1 mL, or 100 IU per drop
Other ingredients: MCT oil.
How to Use
Give the dose your veterinarian sets. The manufacturer directs establishing it from a vitamin D test rather than from body weight, then retesting in 8 to 10 weeks to confirm the level has reached sufficiency.
Count drops rather than estimating. Each drop is 100 IU and the whole point of this format is precision.
Keep the recheck. Without a follow up test there is no way to know whether the dose is right, and with a fat soluble vitamin that is not a detail worth skipping.
Additional Information
For dogs and cats. 2 fl oz (60 mL). This is a nutritional supplement, not an FDA-approved drug.
Vitamin D3 is fat soluble and stored in the body. Do not increase the dose on your own, and do not combine it with another vitamin D containing supplement without telling your veterinarian.
Safety in pregnant or breeding animals has not been proven. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.
Talk to your veterinarian
This one really is dosed from bloodwork. Have the level tested before starting and again at the interval your veterinarian sets, rather than picking an amount.
