Pill Splitter
Pill Splitter
For splitting tablets.
Product Description
A simple pill splitter that divides a tablet in two with minimal effort. The tablet sits in a V-shaped holder that centers it, and a hinged blade comes down through it in one motion, which gives a cleaner and more even split than a knife or a thumbnail.
It matters more with pets than with people. Veterinary dosing is by body weight, so half and quarter tablets are routine rather than unusual, and an uneven split means one dose too high and the next too low. That's a real issue with narrow-margin drugs where the dose is already precise.
The V-holder also keeps your fingers away from the blade, which is worth something when you're splitting a bottle's worth in one sitting.
How to Use
Open the splitter, place the tablet in the holder with the score line centered under the blade, and close the lid firmly in one motion. Store the unused half in the original prescription bottle rather than loose.
Wipe the blade and holder between different medications so residue doesn't carry from one drug to another.
Important
Only split tablets your veterinarian or pharmacist has confirmed can be split. Some medications should never be divided, including extended-release and enteric-coated tablets, where breaking the coating changes how the drug is absorbed. Capsules should not be split at all.
If you're unsure whether a specific tablet can be halved, ask before you split it.
Keep out of reach of children. Clean and dry between uses.
