Description

Prednisolone (pred-niss-oh-lone) Oral Solution is a liquid anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive corticosteroid used to treat allergies, eczema, allergic reactions resulting in hives and asthma, otitis externa, arthritis, addison's disease, nephrosis and more in pets. Sometimes it's used as a cough suppressant and to treat some cancers.

Warnings

Do not use Prednisolone Oral Solution on pets who are allergic, have stomach ulcers or have a systemic fungal infection

Precautions

Use Prednisolone Oral Solution with caution on pets with diabetes, receiving other medications for stomach ulcers including aspirin and NSAIDs (carprofen, flunixin, meloxicam), have cardiovascular or heart disease, pregnant or may be pregnant, younger than 1 year of age or if they have a bacterial infection.

Long term Prednisolone use is associated with increased risk for latent bladder infection, especially in dogs.

Food and Drug Interactions

Other medications can interact with Prednisolone Oral Solution. Be sure to disclose every medication and supplement that is given to your dog before starting Prednisolone Oral Solution.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effect using Prednisolone Oral Solution is sleepiness. Most animals will become tolerant to this effect over time. Other common side effects include bigger appetite and thirst, vomiting, diarrhea and panting more than normal.

Serious side effects to contact your veterinarian about are black tarry stools, bloody vomit and high fever.

Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet is experiencing side effects.
