Pet-Cal Palatable Calcium-Phosphorus-Vitamin D Preparation for Dogs and Cats, 60 Tablets

Pet-Cal Palatable Calcium-Phosphorus-Vitamin D Preparation

For dogs and cats.

Product Description

Pet-Cal is a palatable tablet providing a dietary source of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D for dogs and cats.

The three work together rather than independently. Calcium and phosphorus are the minerals bone is built from, and the ratio between them matters as much as the amounts. Vitamin D is what allows calcium to be absorbed in the first place, which is why a calcium supplement without it does considerably less than expected.

It is flavored to be taken by hand before a meal, and it crumbles cleanly onto food for a pet who would rather not take a tablet.

How to Use

Give one tablet per 20 lbs of body weight by hand just before feeding, or crumble it and mix with food. Follow your veterinarian's direction.

Additional Information

For dogs and cats. This is a nutritional supplement, not an FDA-approved drug.

Store in a cool, dry place with the container closed and keep out of reach of children.

Ask your veterinarian first

Calcium is one supplement worth confirming before you start, because more is not better. A complete and balanced commercial diet already contains calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D in a set ratio, and adding to it can throw that balance off rather than improve it.

This matters most with growing large breed puppies, where added calcium on top of a complete puppy food can interfere with normal skeletal development. If your dog is a growing puppy, talk to your veterinarian before giving this.

Where a calcium supplement does earn its place, such as a home-prepared diet, a nursing mother, or a specific deficiency your veterinarian has identified, it is genuinely useful. Your veterinarian can tell you which situation you are in.
