NutriCalm for Dogs

For dogs.

Product Description

NutriCalm is a capsule formula for dogs showing nervousness, stress or reactivity tied to their environment.

It is built around L-tryptophan at 150 mg per capsule, the amino acid precursor the body converts into serotonin, supported by L-theanine and a set of traditional calming botanicals in valerian, ashwagandha and catnip. Calcium and magnesium round it out, both of which have roles in nerve signaling.

The honest framing for this category is that it takes the edge off rather than sedating. Expect a dog who settles more easily, not one who is knocked out. It is most useful for predictable stressors you can dose ahead of, such as travel, visitors, boarding or storm season, and it can also be given on a regular schedule for a dog who is anxious generally.

Capsules can be given whole or pulled apart and the contents mixed into food.

Active Ingredients Per Capsule

  • L-tryptophan (free form), 150 mg
  • Valerian root extract (Valeriana officinalis), 50 mg
  • Ashwagandha extract (Withania somnifera), 50 mg
  • Catnip extract (Nepeta cataria), 50 mg
  • Calcium (as aspartate), 30 mg
  • Magnesium (as aspartate), 30 mg
  • L-theanine (Suntheanine), 25 mg

Other ingredients: gelatin (capsule), magnesium stearate, silica, rice flour.

How to Use

The label directs 1 capsule for every 25 to 50 lbs of body weight, twice daily or as needed.

For a known stressor, give it ahead of the event rather than once your dog is already worked up. The ingredients need time to be absorbed, and a dog who has already escalated is harder to bring back down.

The label does not give a dose for dogs under 25 lbs or over 50 lbs. Ask your veterinarian for those.

Additional Information

For dogs only. 50 capsules. This is a nutritional supplement, not an FDA-approved drug.

Important interactions, from the manufacturer's label. Do not give NutriCalm alongside CNS depressants. Do not give it with or shortly before anesthesia. Do not give it with hepatotoxic drugs. If your dog has a procedure scheduled, tell the practice that your dog is on this and stop it on their instruction.

Safety in breeding animals has not been proven. Store out of direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.

Talk to your veterinarian

Mention this one before any sedation or surgery, and before starting it if your dog already takes a behavioral medication, since there are real interactions on the label.

Anxiety that is severe, getting worse, or showing up as aggression is worth addressing properly rather than with a supplement alone.
