Product Description

Nemex-2 is a caramel-flavored liquid dewormer for the removal of large roundworms and hookworms in dogs and puppies. Pyrantel pamoate at 4.54 mg/mL is one of the most widely used deworming agents in veterinary medicine, and the palatable suspension makes it practical to dose a wriggling puppy accurately by weight.

It's the standard choice for puppies, who are commonly born with roundworms passed from the dam. It can also be used to prevent reinfestation with Toxocara canis in puppies, adult dogs, and nursing mothers after whelping.

How to Use

Shake well before use and dose by body weight according to the label. Give directly by mouth or mix into a small amount of food. No fasting is required.

A single treatment removes the worms present at the time of dosing, but it does not kill migrating larvae, which is why a repeat dose is standard. Follow the label schedule or your veterinarian's direction — puppies are typically dewormed on a repeating schedule over several weeks rather than once.

For nursing mothers, treatment after whelping helps reduce reinfestation of the litter.

Roundworms and hookworms are zoonotic — they can infect people, most seriously children. Pick up stool promptly, wash hands after handling puppies or cleaning up, and keep children away from areas where puppies have soiled.

Talk to your veterinarian before treating a very young, weak, or sick puppy, or a pregnant or nursing dog, and if worms are still seen in the stool after the recommended course. A fecal exam is the only way to know which parasites are actually present — pyrantel does not treat whipworms, tapeworms, or coccidia, all of which are common and need different drugs.
