Product Description
Mometavet is a three-in-one otic suspension for the treatment of otitis externa in dogs, caused by susceptible strains of yeast (Malassezia pachydermatis) and bacteria (Pseudomonas species including P. aeruginosa, coagulase-positive staphylococci, Enterococcus faecalis, Proteus mirabilis, and beta-hemolytic streptococci).
The three actives cover the three things wrong with an infected ear at once. Gentamicin is an antibiotic, clotrimazole is an antifungal, and mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid that brings down the inflammation and swelling. That combination matters because most canine ear infections involve both bacteria and yeast, and a swollen canal is too painful and too narrow for anything to work properly until the inflammation comes down.
It's the same active combination as Mometamax, in a generic from Dechra.

How to Use
Use exactly as prescribed. Shake well before each use.
Clean the ear first if your veterinarian has directed it, and let it dry before applying the medication. Instill the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal, then massage the base of the ear for several seconds so the suspension works down into the canal rather than sitting at the opening.
Head shaking afterward is normal. Wipe away excess from the visible part of the ear with a cotton ball or gauze.
Do not use cotton swabs inside the ear canal. They push debris deeper and risk damaging the eardrum.
Finish the full course your veterinarian prescribed, even if the ear looks better after a few days. Stopping early is the most common reason ear infections come back.
Wash your hands after handling.
Important Safety Information
Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. For otic use in dogs only. Not for use in cats, humans, or other species.
Do not use in dogs with a known or suspected ruptured eardrum. Aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin can cause deafness or vestibular damage if they reach the middle ear. Your veterinarian should examine the ear and confirm the eardrum is intact before this product is prescribed, which is also why leftover ear medication should never be reused on a new episode or another dog.
Use with caution in pregnant or breeding dogs. Corticosteroids applied to the ear can be absorbed systemically, particularly with long courses or in small dogs, so tell your veterinarian about any other corticosteroid your dog is receiving, and about diabetes or Cushing's disease.
Contact your veterinarian if your dog develops a head tilt, loss of balance, circling, apparent hearing loss, increased pain, or if the ear worsens or fails to improve on schedule.
