Modulis for Cats is a cyclosporine oral solution from Ceva, indicated for the control of feline allergic dermatitis as it presents through excoriations including facial and neck lesions, miliary dermatitis, eosinophilic plaques, and self-induced alopecia.
Allergic skin disease in cats looks different from how it looks in dogs, which is part of why it goes unrecognized. Cats over-groom rather than scratch openly, so owners often see bald patches on the belly or legs and assume the hair is falling out, when the cat has actually been licking it off. Scabby bumps along the back, raw spots on the face and neck, and ulcerated plaques are the other common presentations.
Cyclosporine modulates the immune response driving the allergy rather than simply blocking the itch signal, which makes it a management drug rather than a fast one. Relief builds over weeks, and many cats can eventually be tapered to every other day or twice-weekly dosing once the condition is controlled.
The liquid is dosed by weight with the included syringe, graduated in one-pound increments, which is far more practical than trying to pill a cat daily.
