Legend® (Hyaluronate Sodium) Injectable Solution — For Horses
Legend is an FDA-approved prescription joint therapy for horses, indicated in the treatment of joint dysfunction of the carpus or fetlock due to non-infectious synovitis associated with equine osteoarthritis. The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is a naturally occurring component of healthy joint fluid. Hyaluronate molecules form long chains that create a filter network within joint fluid, supplementing the viscoelastic and lubricating properties of normal synovial fluid and supporting healing of inflamed synovium. Osteoarthritis develops in horses of any age and any discipline from everyday wear and tear, and it doesn't reverse on its own — Legend gives your veterinarian a targeted option for managing it. Sizes and Approved Routes
- Legend 2 mL (20 mg) — approved for intravenous and intra-articular use
- Legend 4 mL (40 mg) — approved for intravenous use only
- Legend Multi Dose 20 mL — approved for intravenous use only

Note that only the smallest presentation is approved for injection directly into the joint; the 4 mL and 20 mL Multi Dose are IV-only, and the Multi Dose is not for intra-articular use because the intra-articular safety of hyaluronate sodium with benzyl alcohol has not been evaluated.

- Each mL contains 10 mg hyaluronate sodium, 8.5 mg sodium chloride, 0.223 mg sodium phosphate dibasic, and 0.04 mg sodium phosphate monobasic
- pH adjusted to 6.5–8.0 with sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid
- Clear, colorless, low-viscosity solution — sterile and pyrogen-free
- Single-use presentations contain no preservative; the Multi Dose presentation contains benzyl alcohol
- Hyaluronic acid is extracted from Streptococcus spp. capsule and purified, essentially free of protein and nucleic acids
- For use in horses only
- Store at or below 77°F (25°C); brief excursions to 104°F (40°C) permitted
