Cat Flea Comb

Product Description

A fine-toothed metal flea comb. The teeth sit close enough together to catch adult fleas and flea dirt as you draw the comb through the coat, which makes it the simplest way to find out whether your pet actually has fleas rather than guessing.

That diagnostic use is the main reason to own one. Fleas are fast and hard to spot on a moving animal, especially on a dark coat, and owners often treat for weeks without ever confirming the problem. Combing settles it in a few minutes. Flea dirt is the other tell: dark specks that turn rust red on a damp paper towel, because it's digested blood.

It also works as a removal tool for kittens and puppies too young for topical treatment, and as a way to check whether a treatment is working.

How to Use

Comb in the direction the coat lies, working through small sections and getting the teeth down to the skin rather than skimming the surface. Pay attention to the base of the tail, the lower back, the belly, and behind the ears, where fleas concentrate.

Keep a bowl of soapy water beside you and dip the comb after each pass. Fleas jump off a dry comb and drown in soapy water.

Check what comes off on a damp white paper towel. Specks that smear rust red are flea dirt and confirm an infestation even if you never see a live flea.

Comb gently on a cat. The teeth are fine and close, and pulling through a tangle is uncomfortable. Work out mats with a regular comb first.
