The Puppy KONG uses a softer rubber formula than the classic red, made specifically for the developing teeth and gums of a young dog. Teething puppies chew because their gums hurt, and giving them something appropriate to work on is how you steer that instinct away from your table legs and shoes.

The hollow center is where it earns its place. Stuff it with kibble, puppy-safe spreads, or wet food and freeze it, and you get two things at once: cold relief for sore gums and twenty minutes of independent occupation. That makes it one of the more useful tools for crate training and for teaching a puppy to settle alone, which is the foundation of avoiding separation problems later.

Safety

Supervise play and inspect the toy regularly. Replace it once you see chunks missing, deep gouges, or splits, since swallowed rubber can cause an intestinal blockage.

Puppies grow fast. A KONG that fit at twelve weeks may be a choking hazard at six months, so re-size as your puppy grows and move up to the Classic red or the Extreme black once the adult teeth are in and the chewing gets serious.
