Ketochlor from Virbac is an antiseborrheic, antiseptic medicated shampoo combining ketoconazole 1% with chlorhexidine gluconate 2%, for the management of skin conditions responsive to either ingredient.

The pairing is what makes it useful. Chlorhexidine is a broad antiseptic, and ketoconazole is an antifungal, so the shampoo addresses both sides of the problem at once. That matters because bacterial and yeast overgrowth so often occur together on an allergic or seborrheic dog, and treating only one leaves the other to take over.

How to Use

Use exactly as prescribed. Wet the coat thoroughly with lukewarm water, apply the shampoo, and massage it in, working down to the skin rather than just over the coat.

Contact time is the whole game with a medicated shampoo. Leave it on for the full time your veterinarian specified, usually around ten minutes, before rinsing. Most treatment failures with this class come from rinsing too soon rather than from the product.

Rinse thoroughly. Repeat at the frequency prescribed, and finish the full course even if the skin looks better.

Follow with a conditioning rinse if your pet's coat dries out, since medicated shampoos strip oils by design.

Avoid the eyes. If shampoo gets in, rinse with clean water. Wash your hands after bathing.
