Product Description

EquiShield SB is a topical cream for horses that does three jobs at once: it blocks sun, repels insects, and cleanses the skin it's applied to.

Sunburn is a real problem for the horses it affects. Pink skin on a blaze or a snip, bald patches, and the muzzle on a paint or an Appaloosa burn readily, and a burned muzzle is sore enough to affect eating. Zinc oxide at 20% provides a physical barrier that sits on the skin rather than absorbing into it, which is what makes it effective on a nose that's out in the sun all day.

The formula also carries chlorhexidine gluconate at 1% as a topical antiseptic and citronella oil at 1% to repel insects, with aloe vera to soothe skin that's already irritated. That combination matters because the places that burn are the same thin-skinned places flies target, and the same places that get raw.

How to Use

Clean and dry the area first. Apply a visible layer to the muzzle, blaze, ears, or any pink or thinly haired skin exposed to sun.

Zinc oxide works as a physical barrier, so it needs to be seen to be working. A thin invisible smear isn't doing the job.

Reapply as needed, particularly after sweating, washing, rain, or grazing, which rubs it off the muzzle quickly.

Apply before turnout rather than after, and remember that sun exposure is heaviest in the middle of the day.

Cautions

For external use only. For use on horses. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Chlorhexidine can cause rare but serious allergic reactions in people. Wash your hands after use, and stop using it if you develop symptoms.

Discontinue and consult your veterinarian if irritation develops or worsens.

Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature.
