Product Description

EquiShield FG Fly Guard Salve is a plant-based insect repellent for horses in a thick, stay-put formula. It repels the biting insects behind most cases of insect bite hypersensitivity, including gnats, biting flies, mosquitoes, and ticks, using citronella oil, cedarwood oil, and peppermint oil in a petrolatum and beeswax base.

The salve consistency is the reason to choose this over the spray or roll-on. It stays where you put it rather than running or evaporating, which makes it the right choice for the places that need protection most and hold it least: the ear edges, the face, the belly line, the dock, and the skin around a healing wound where flies gather and won't leave.

It also forms a protective layer on the skin, which helps with the irritation that comes from repeated bites on an already sensitive horse. No artificial colors or additives.

Ingredients

Active: Citronella oil, cedarwood oil, peppermint oil

Other: Petrolatum, beeswax, mineral oil, lanolin, vitamin E

How to Use

Clean the area and remove excess dirt and debris first.

Apply a thin layer to the areas you want protected, working it in with your fingers or a gloved hand. Concentrate on the spots insects target: ear edges and inner ears, around the eyes without touching them, the muzzle, the belly line, and the dock.

Reapply as needed. Natural repellents generally need more frequent application than synthetic products, particularly in heat or after work and washing.
