Product Description

Elura is a once-daily oral solution indicated for the management of weight loss in cats with chronic kidney disease. It works by mimicking ghrelin, the naturally occurring hormone that signals hunger, which increases food intake and drives metabolic changes that support weight gain.

Weight loss in a cat with CKD isn't cosmetic. It's progressive, it's associated with shorter survival, and it's one of the harder problems for an owner to solve at home, since coaxing a cat with kidney disease to eat more of a renal diet rarely works by persuasion alone. Elura addresses the appetite side directly rather than relying on food changes.

The solution is dosed by weight with the included syringe, so it works well for cats who won't take tablets.

How to Use

Give orally once daily at the dose your veterinarian prescribes. The label dose is 2 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb), which works out to 0.1 mL/kg (0.045 mL/lb) of solution.

To draw a dose: remove the cap, insert the dosing syringe, invert the bottle and withdraw the amount prescribed, return the bottle upright, remove the syringe, and replace the cap. Give the solution into your cat's mouth. Rinse the syringe and plunger with water afterward and leave the parts separated to dry.

If your cat is fed meals rather than free-fed, offer food about 30 minutes after dosing. If your cat vomits within 15 minutes or only gets part of a dose, the dose may be re-administered.

Important Safety Information

Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. For oral use in cats only.

Do not use in cats with a hypersensitivity to capromorelin, or in cats with hypersomatotropism (acromegaly).

Elura may raise blood glucose for several hours after dosing. Its use in cats with current or previous diabetes mellitus has not been evaluated and may not be appropriate.

Use with caution in cats with cardiac disease, severe dehydration, or hepatic dysfunction. Elura causes transient decreases in heart rate and blood pressure for up to four hours after dosing, and some cats show signs of bradycardia or low blood pressure.

Safe use has not been evaluated in cats younger than five months, or in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats.

The most commonly reported adverse reactions were vomiting, hypersalivation, inappetence, behavior change, and lethargy. Vomiting was the most frequent; contact your veterinarian if it persists.

Keep in a secure location away from dogs, cats, and other animals to prevent accidental ingestion. Not for use in humans — consult a physician if a person accidentally ingests it.
