Description

Palladia is chemotherapy drug used to treat a wide variety of cancer and tumors in dogs. It is the first official FDA approved medication to treat cancers in dogs

Warnings

Do not use Palladia in dogs who are pregnant or lactating, used for breeding or that are expected to have surgery within 3 days (according to manufacturerʼs label).

Palladia may cause vascular dysfunction which can lead to edema and thromboembolism, including pulmonary thromboembolism. Palladia has been associated with severe diarrhea or GI bleeding

Precautions

Take caution using Palladia if your dog has any existing infections, younger than 24 months old, weighs under 11lbs, if they have liver or kidney problems, have pre-existing gastrointestinal issues or who have a condition called systemic mastocytosis .

Food and Drug Interactions

Other medications can interact with Palladia including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Be sure to disclose every medication and supplement that is given to your dog before starting Palladia.

Human Warnings

Not for use in humans. Children and pregnant women should not come in contact with Palladia and to be kept away from feces, urine, or vomit of treated dogs taking Palladia. Owner is recommended to handle Palladia with gloves and to be avoided of splitting tablet to avoid as much exposure as possible.

On the day your animal gets the drug and then for a few days afterward, all bodily waste (urine, feces, litter), blood, or vomit should only be handled while wearing disposable gloves.Seal the waste and any items used to clean it (paper towels, gloves, etc) in a plastic bag and then place bag in another bag (double bag) before placing in with the regular trash.

Avoid contact with bare skin, eyes, or mouth.

Do not let treated animals lick human skin. If skin exposure occurs, the area should be washed thoroughly with soap and water.

Possible Side Effects

Clinical studies shows, the most common adverse events associated with Palladia included: diarrhea, anorexia (including decreased appetite), lethargy, neutropenia, emesis, lameness, weight loss, musculoskeletal disorder, and blood in stool/GI bleed/hemorrhagic diarrhea

Less common side effects include nose bleed, muscle cramping, seizures, itchy skin. The manufacturer recommends stop immediately stop using Palladia if your pet is experiencing vomiting or watery stools exceeding over 24 hours, black tarry stools, bright red blood in vomit or stool and unexplained bruising. If your pet is having a serious reaction to Palladia, contact your vet immediately.

Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet is experiencing side effects.
