Ketoconazole Tablets

Warnings

Do not use Ketoconazole if your pet has a history of being allergic to other "azole" antifungals including: itraconazole and fluconazole

Precautions

Ketoconazole should be used with caution in patients that have liver disease, have too few platelets or who are pregnant and nursing.

Food and Drug Interactions

Many medications can interact with Ketoconazole. Be sure to disclose every medication and supplement that is given to your pet before starting Ketoconazole

Ketoconazole should be given with food. Giving it with a fatty food such as butter, cream or cheese helps the drug to be absorbed.

Human Warnings

This drug has a higher risk for causing birth defects, so pregnant women should take extra care to wear disposable gloves when handling the drug. Avoid inhaling any dust from split or crushed tablets. Skin or eyes exposed to powder or liquids containing Ketoconazole should immediately be washed or rinsed off thoroughly.

Possible Side Effects

Cats are more likely to experience side effects then dogs are using Ketoconazole. The most common side effects for both animals are decreased appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects can turn serious if they are prolonged for a long amount of time.
