Mexiletine Capsules

Description

Mexiletine (mex-ill-eh-teen) is a drug used to treat irregular heart rhythms in dogs and cats. Mexiletine has also been used to treat some muscle conditions seen in some dog breeds

This drug should not be used in patients that are allergic to it

Precautions

This drug should be used with caution in patients that have kidney or severe liver problems, with certain heart conditions, with seizure disorders (eg, epilepsy)

Other drugs can cause problems when taken with mexiletine, so be sure to tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) you give your animal, including the amount and time you give each.

There are no specific precautions required when handling this medication unless you are allergic to it. Wash your hands after handling any medication.

Possible Side Effects

Side effect can include vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, clumsiness, anxiety/nervousness, or tremors
