Description

Doxycycline (docks-ee-sye-kleen) given by mouth, can be useful in dogs, cats, horses, small mammals, birds, and reptiles to treat infections including
Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Chlamydia spp infection, Psittacosis, and heartworm infection. This medication can
also be used to reduce inflammation such as eye inflammation in horses.

Warnings

This drug should not be used in patients that are allergic to it or other tetracycline drugs. That are pregnant or nursing unless the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the offspring.

Precautions

This drug should be used with caution in patients that have liver problems, that are young and still developing bones and teeth.

Other drugs can interact with this medication, so be sure to tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) you give your animal

Keep away from children and other animals.

 

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects include stomach upset, vomiting (in small animals), reduced appetite, diarrhea, reddening (sunburn) of hairless skin around nose, eyelids, and ears when exposed to sunlight.

Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet is experiencing side effects.
