Description

OstiMax is an NSAID that is indicated for the control of post-operative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic (bone) and dental surgery in dogs and for the control of pain and inflammation (soreness) associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

Warnings

Your dog should not be given OstiMax tablets if they have had an allergic reaction to deracoxib, the active ingredient in Ostimax, has had an allergic reaction (such as hives, facial swelling, or red or itchy skin) to aspirin or other NSAIDs, is presently taking aspirin, other NSAIDs, or corticosteroids (unless directed by your veterinarian), has bloody stool or vomit, has a pre-existing kidney or liver condition, has any condition predisposing to dehydration, is anorexic (loss of appetite)

OstiMax tablets should only be given to dogs.
Do not use in cats

 

Precautions

All dogs should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before the initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data prior to, and periodically during, administration of any NSAID is recommended.

Food and Drug Interactions

OstiMax tablets should not be given with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or corticosteroids (for example, aspirin, carprofen, etodolac, prednisone).

Other drugs can interact with this medication, so be sure to tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) you give your animal

Human Warnings

Keep away from children and other animals. Not for Human consumption. 

 

Possible Side Effects

Deracoxib appears to be well tolerated in the majority of dogs treated.
However, like other NSAIDs, many adverse effects associated with deracoxib have been reported, including GI (eg, vomiting, anorexia, weight loss, diarrhea, melena, hematemesis, hematochezia, GI ulceration, perforation), urinary (eg, azotemia, polydipsia, polyuria, UTI, hematuria, incontinence, chronic kidney disease), hematologic (eg, anemia, thrombocytopenia), hepatic (eg, increased hepatic enzymes, changes in total protein), neurologic (eg, lethargy, weakness, seizures), cardiovascular/respiratory (eg, tachypnea, bradycardia, cough), and dermatologic/immunologic (eg, fever, facial/muzzle edema, urticaria, dermatitis).

Contact your veterinarian if you believe your pet is experiencing side effects.
